About This Speaker: Georges St-Pierre
Georges St-Pierre (GSP) was born and raised in St-Isidore, Quebec, a small town of about 2,000 people. Bullied as a child, he turned to Kyokushin karate at age 7, eventually earning his 2nd dan black belt by 12. Inspired by Royce Gracie’s UFC 1 victory in 1993, Georges dedicated himself to martial arts and self-improvement, balancing training with jobs like working as a nightclub doorman and hauling garbage.
Georges expanded his skillset to include boxing, wrestling, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, winning his first amateur MMA fight at 16. He became the UFC Welterweight Champion in 2006, lost the title in 2007, but regained it in front of his hometown fans in 2008. He defended the title successfully until his retirement in 2013, holding the UFC record for most wins in title bouts.
After a four-year hiatus, Georges St-Pierre returned to the octagon in 2017 to capture the UFC Middleweight Championship, becoming only the fourth fighter in history to hold titles in multiple divisions. He retired again in 2019 after a series of health challenges and a refusal from the UFC to book a superfight with Khabib Nurmagomedov. In 2021, GSP was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest pound-for-pound fighters in MMA history, Georges St-Pierre continues to train globally, always striving to evolve as both an athlete and individual.
