About This Speaker: Kori Cheverie

Kori Cheverie has been a trailblazer in ice hockey as both a player and coach. She began her playing career with the Saint Mary’s Huskies women’s ice hockey team, earning recognition as a three-time AUS First Team All-Star and a CIS Academic All-Canadian. After her university career, Cheverie joined the Toronto Furies of the Canadian Women’s Hockey League (CWHL) in 2010. Over six seasons, she set franchise records for points, games played, and power-play goals, playing a key role in the Furies’ 2014 Clarkson Cup victory.

In 2016, Kori Cheverie broke new ground by becoming the first woman to secure a full-time coaching role in U Sports men’s hockey with the Ryerson Rams. Her coaching expertise earned recognition on the global stage in 2021, when she joined the Canadian National Women’s Team as an assistant coach. She helped lead the team to a gold medal at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and the IIHF Women’s World Championships. Cheverie made history again in 2022 by becoming the first woman to serve as an assistant coach for the Canadian men’s national under-18 team. The following year, she was appointed the inaugural head coach of the Montréal Victoire in the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL).

In 2023, Hockey Nova Scotia honoured Kori Cheverie with the President’s Award in recognition of her contributions to the sport. Through her leadership and dedication, she continues to advocate for the growth of women’s professional hockey and sets a positive example for women in sports and leadership roles.
