About Andre
Andre De Grasse is the most decorated Olympian in Canadian history, having won seven medals throughout his career. At the 2016 Rio Games, Andre became the first Canadian to capture medals in all three sprint events in a single Olympics. Five years later at the Tokyo Games, which were postponed by a year due to the COVID pandemic, Andre did it again winning three more medals, including gold in the 200m.
At the 2024 Paris Olympics Andre had the honour of being chosen as flag bearer for the opening ceremonies. However, throughout the Games, he was hampered by a hamstring injury and struggled in his individual events. Demonstrating incredible resilience and living up to his clutch performer reputation, Andre took Canada from third to first on the final anchor leg and propelled his team to a dramatic Olympic gold medal title.
The Toronto born and Markham raised athlete first made a name for himself in the spring of 2015 after winning gold in the 100m and 200m at the NCAA Championships. The next month, he sprinted to victory in the 100 and 200m events in his own backyard at the Toronto Pan Am Games before wrapping up the season competing in his first World Championships where he took home bronze medals in the 100m and 4x100m relay. In total, Andre has won five world championship medals.
Off the track, Andre is a proud father raising three children with his partner Nia Ali, who is the 2019 World Champion in the women’s 100m hurdles and an Olympic Silver medalist. The speedy couple met at the University of Southern California and live and train together in Florida. Andre’s an accomplished author, having written the best-selling illustrated children’s book, Race With Me! and the personal empowerment book, IGNITE: Unlock the Hidden Potential Within. Andre has acquired ownership in a variety of businesses including a stake in AFC Toronto, the new women’s professional soccer team.
Andre seeks to inspire and empower youth through the work of the Andre De Grasse Family Foundation. He currently serves as the honorary co-chair of Kids Help Phone’s Feel Out Loud $250 million campaign and has supported dozens of high school track athletes optimize their potential in the classroom through the ADG Future Champions Scholarship Program. In 2023, Andre was named to the Order of Ontario in recognition of his breadth of accomplishments and commitment to invest in others.
