He quickly became one of the premier goal scorers of his era, making his mark as the team’s captain by the age of 24, the second-youngest in history at the time.

Sittler’s most iconic moment came on February 7, 1976, during a game against the Boston Bruins. He scored six goals and added four assists, setting an NHL record that still stands for most points in a single game. This achievement helped Sittler become the first Maple Leaf to score 100 points in a season, cementing his place in hockey history. He played 16 NHL seasons, finishing with 484 goals and 637 assists for 1,121 points in 1,096 career games. Sittler was equally impressive in the postseason, scoring 29 goals and 45 assists in 76 playoff games.

Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1989, Darryl Sittler’s contributions to the game were further honored when his number 27 was retired by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2003.
