07 Feb Building a Winning Team Within Your Organization
6 Minute Read | How to construct a SuperBowl-level winning team within your organization.
“Individual commitment to a group effort – that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work.” – Vince Lombardi
On Sunday, all eyes will be on the Superbowl. After a gruelling season, two teams will go head-to-head with each other, hoping to capture one of the most important trophies in the sports world. While each player will have a defined role, it will take teamwork to reach the podium.
Organizations need committed “players”, like any successful sports team, to reach their desired goals. Build a valuable team of employees by building an inclusive company culture, optimizing your communication strategies and promoting collaboration.
Here are five ways you can build a valuable team within your organization:
Clearly define roles and responsibilities
Your team should assign clear roles and responsibilities to each team member. The team member should be equipped with all the information they need to adequately meet their specific tasks and help them to contribute to the team’s overall goals and objectives.
Select the right team members
Teamwork makes the dream work, but only if you’ve got the right team. To build your dream team, you must select team members with the necessary skills, experience and personality traits. Your team needs talented and knowledgeable members, but also ones who can collaborate with others and adapt to change.
Foster open communication and collaboration
Every relationship therapist will tell you – communication is key! Your team lead, project manager or superior should encourage open and honest communication. Create opportunities for team members to collaborate and work together to solve problems and achieve goals. Try regular meetings, group discussions, and team-building activities.
Provide support and resources
There is always room to learn more and grow. Make sure your team is prepared with the support and resources they will need to be successful. Support and resources can come from training, tools, equipment, and access to information and expertise.
Recognize and reward achievement
By acknowledging and showing appreciation for your team members’ contributions, you can build a sense of security in their value to the company. As our dear friend Dr. Jody Carrington says: we all want to feel seen. Through public recognition, bonuses, promotions and other forms of recognition, your team will feel seen and motivated to continue their valuable work.
Create a positive and inclusive culture
On the topic of feeling seen, it’s also essential to create a space of positive and inclusive work. Build an environment that promotes collaboration, creativity and personal growth by providing opportunities for professional development, supporting diversity and inclusion, and promoting a healthy work-life balance.
